Come and see Guy Davis this Friday!!!!!
 by Cliff Garber  ·  6 February 2007

Hello Y’all…..

Though no one usually pre-empts a show, I’m possibly going to be the first M&T member to do so, but here I am promoting the incomparable GUY DAVIS, inimitable and fantazmagorical blues singer, whose new CD, Skunkmello, has won rave reviews across the country from folkmusic and blues critics alike.

He is the son of the great actor Ossie Davis and great actress Ruby Dee, a talented chip off the old folks. I’ve seen him at the Joyful Noise in Lexington, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, WUMB events and many places over the past several years, and the audience just eats him up alive. If you miss him, know there’ll be a hole in your folky little hearts.

He’s very humble about his growing success and legion of fans, very down-to-earth, sweet and approachable before and after any show. His voice is a bit gruff, a bit of the latter Tom Waits stuff and Dave Van Ronk, but then again, 90% his own. He has a few beautiful guitars, and my favorite I think, is a beautiful Gibson 12-string with lots of brass and inlay, and he plays them all like a master.

So, button up to your eyeballs and down to your toes, come into the UU Church and sip some hot liquid with some delicious sweet treats, and hunker down for a night of solid, rolicking, bluesy fun. This dude’s great, man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A GUY DAVIS fan and ME AND THEE’er, Susie Pascar
