Loudon Wainwright III

Loudon Wainwright III has an incredible number of career highlights. Too many to list but here’s an attempt: He’s a 2010 GRAMMY Best Traditional Folk Album Winner for High Wide & Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project. He has two previous GRAMMY nominations: I’m Alright (1985), and More Love Songs (1986_. Per NPR music critic, his album High Wide & Handsome was the best of 2009; it was also named among that year’s best by the Village Voice, No Depression, FolkWax and fRoots. The New York Times says “Mr. Wainwright has proved to be far and away the most candid diarist among the singer-songwriters who brought confessional poetry into popular song. . . . Mr. Wainwright wrings more human truth out of his contradiction than any other songwriter of his generation.” His songs have been covered by Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, Earl Scruggs, Mose Allison, Big Star, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, and Rufus Wainwright among others.

And beyond the music credentials, Wainwright adds some film acting credits: Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up (for which he also recorded the soundtrack) and The 40 Year Old Virgin; Christopher Guest’s For Your Consideration; Cameron Crowe’s Elizabethtown; Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator; Tim Burton’s Big Fish; 28 Days alongside Sandra Bullock, Viggo Mortensen and Steve Buscemi; Jacknife with Robert De Niro and Ed Harris; Neil Simon’s The Slugger’s Wife. Television acting credits include: Parks and Recreation, Ally McBeal; The T.V. Show (w/ Rob Reiner, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer, Michael McKean, Billy Crystal) where he played keyboard with the early Spinal Tap, which made its first appearance on this program; a recurring role on M*A*S*H and a role as the original musician/sidekick on The David Letterman Show. Needless to say, Loudon is full of some wonderful stories which add intimacy and candor to his live shows.

Kat Quinn

Kat Quinn is an indie-pop musician based in New York City. She comes from Marblehead, Massachusetts and discovered music at an early age, when she started playing drums, piano and guitar. But it wasn’t until college that she discovered the piece that tied them all together: writing. The writing quickly turned her toward a new vocation. Kat’s personality lights up each show that she does. “You’d think she was born on stage” says No Depression music magazine.

In March 2013 Quinn was featured on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’s “Battle of the Instant Songwriters,” where she wrote and performed an original song, “Clouds are People Too,” gaining fans nationwide. Her songs have been featured in film and commercials and notable outlets such as American Songwriter and Pop Matters.

Kat released her latest EP, Rust to Gold in October 2015. It was produced by Adam Rhodes (Bon Iver collaborator). The EP’s tracks have been praised by tastemakers such as DiffuserFM who said “Quinn’s gorgeous vocals and the delicate accompanying visuals make for a long-last impact; her sentiments toward the song are deeply personal and quite relatable.”

  • In my head, Loudon Wainwright is Bono. Judd Apatow, to Rolling Stone Magazine
  • One of America’s most astute lyrical commentators . . . lyrically compelling and emotionally overpowering. Mojo Magazine
  • Even when he first started, the critic’s often-given title of the New Dylan was already inaccurate. Wainwright more closely embodied the spirit of a Pete Seeger — humorous, a proverbial heart hanging off the sleeve, and more comfortable with the beauty of everyday, mundane living — than Bob Dylan, a man deep in persona, abstraction, french surrealism, and above all secrecy. However, Wainwright differs from Seeger in material and focus, from Seeger’s outward, political stance to a more inner-focused vision. Few artists have sung about their life’s edges as bluntly as Wainwright. Shane Kimberlin, Music Ohm.com

  • Kat Quinn and her music continue to grow and to impress me. Her stage presence is relaxed and funny and her songs grab you. They are serious of with a bit of humor.. I was just blown away with Kat’s voice and songwriting. Just wonderful. Peter Calo (Carly Simon Producer and Music Director)
  • Lovely. Spartan. Beautiful. That’s the music that we get from Kat Quinn. It takes a confident songwriter to put herself out there so emotionally naked, and the effect is fantastic and mesmerizing. Top 50 Women of Indie Music List, nonhollywood.com
  • Kat’s vocals are complete bliss to these ears, a real pleasure to listen to. Combining those vocals with intelligent lyrics she offers a depth to her music that is often lacking today, she will warm the hearts of any audience. Alex Gallacher, Folk Radio UK
